Year summary

Posted on 02:23 by Unknown
This year there has been alot of stuff going on for Digital DJs. The controller trend has been booming this year with alot of focus on four deck controllers and together with the release of Kontrol S4 the scene has moved more towards making more out of you performance.
Serato released The Bridge and introduced alot of products for Itch which is also a sign that controllerism is on an upwards

Fixing Kontrol S4 high CPU-usage problem

Posted on 23:27 by Unknown

Yes! Earlier I've posted that Traktor Kontrol S4 had some unusual high CPU requirements. The solution that Jaycobson figured out was to use the NI Audio 8 DJ as a soundcard. That reduced the CPU load quite a bit. Now that I've bought a new computer, this wasn't an issue since my new computer has an I7 processor, but I still thought that is used alot of processing power never the less.
I thought

Two channel mixers

Posted on 03:12 by Unknown
DJ Techtools has done an article about two channel mixers.
For those of you who use two channels and timecode, the mixer is at the heart of your performance. So selecting the right one is important. Picking the right one is pretty important.
Personaly I like the Pioneer mixers, but that's probably what's been served to me in clubs over the years. It's a preference thing really.

Building a mix

Posted on 04:37 by Unknown
DJ Techtools did a nice article about how to build a mix, or set if you like. An informative article that look to parallells between a mix/set and a feature film. This also actually reffer to the construction of a single track.
In this example it all boils down to the example of a three-act paradigm:

I think this was a good way to attack the concept on how to build a mix/set. I've seen alot of

Emergency DJ equipment: Ipod...

Posted on 22:23 by Unknown
I didn't get enough time to do my Youtube-segment yesterday, so it's here one day later.

What to do when your Traktor fails? (Which it almost never does)
If you are so unlucky that your computer or Mac bugs out on you durring a gig you can always just put on a random mix from an MP3 player, but what if you could do more? What if you instantly could have a great tool as a back up?

Summed up: Just what I want and in fantastic quality!

High S4 system requirements

I love the S4 and I have tried it out quite alot... at home, cause I can't use at live gigs.
Reason: My computer isn't up to par.

After installing Traktor Kontrol S4 on my "DJ-computer" I was sad to see that the processor meter peeked most of the time. My computer is three years old and has a 1,6 GHz which is more then enought to run Traktor Pro, but unfortunately not S4. Jaycobson just got his

Patch setup for computer DJs

Posted on 08:05 by Unknown

Pretty cool looking piece of equipment.
We've all been there... Arriving at the club and the first thing you have to do is to unplug the mixer and rearranging the cables to connect your soundcard. Then when you leave and you have to do it all over again. Rodec USA made a patch panel called Patch Live for fixing this problem. It makes it so that when Digital DJs arrive, they can easily connect

Keeping your music safe (1/3): Overview

Posted on 13:40 by Unknown

How many of you are backing up all your music? When do you do it?
It's really important to be on a regular backup plan and make sure that your data is safe.
You can either do this manualy or use an automated backup system.

There are a couple of things you should back up:
1. Music folders (Where ever they are on your computer)
2. Traktor setup folders (C:\Users\[user]\Documents\Native

Controllerism for Gamers!

Posted on 03:20 by Unknown
There are alot of cool controllers on the market for controlling Traktor. One can use any kind of controller as an interface as long as you can map your signals right. Software like GlovePIE can be used for bridging the gap between bluetooth data to MIDI signals and it's this software most of the people using DJ Hero, Guitar Hero and Wii controllers as MIDI devices.

TIP: Music on USB

Posted on 02:22 by Unknown
I've had some problem with Traktor crashing while playing from external disks and drives.
My Traktor is normaly pretty reliable, but when I play music directly from an external drive it some times just gives my computer some hickups.
Just want to recommend you NOT playing directly from an external source, but copying your tracks to your local drive. It could just be my computer acting up, but

Reloop Mixage

Posted on 05:38 by Unknown
Reloop launched the Mixage controller at BPM in Birmingham at the start of October. It's a two deck controller with a built-in sound card (16 bit/48 kHz) which is okay for the price range that it's in. You can get this unit for about $300-400 USD which is in the lower price range for controllers with built-in sound cards.

I've never tried controllers from Reloop, but they seem to have a good

A run through of the four deck controller from Allen & Heath. Even though it's made for Itch, it still would do great on a Traktor setup aswell. The controller gets minus points for not having touch sensitive jogs... As I said earlier: Allen & Heath makes good products, but I personally don't like the faders, jogs or buttons. The faders just feels off some how and the buttons tend to have a long

Rumor: 4 deck magic from Numark

How to sync with timecode

Posted on 12:06 by Unknown

The key to applying sync when using timecode is quite simple, but there are a couple of things you'll need to keep in mind.
The pitch slider needs to be in 0 when the track is calibrated and NOT moved from that position. Use the internal slider when adjusting the tempo.
The sync will not hold due to the wow and flutter. So you might have to retrigger the sync sometimes if you hit the flutter on
